In the ancient capital of Kyoto, the traditions of Japan live on in its temples, shrines, and old townhouses. Kyoto is the only large Japanese city that still has an abundance of pre-war buildings.
Many of these buildings are traditional townhouses, known as Machiya.
Our concept and purpose in providing this accommodation has been the preservation of the original building incorporating modern conveniences without compromising the natural beauty and cultural heritage important for future generations.
In this way we hope to provide our guests with not only a memorable but also a traditional Kyoto living experience. We look forward to having you stay with us.

ROOM DESCRIPTIONS:
Delightful ground floor tatami room incorporating its own Japanese garden, private western bathroom/toilet, reverse-cycle air-conditioning (cooling/heating), cable television as well as coffee & tea making facilities plus refrigerator. There is no kitchenette. Free Wi-fi.
Bedding consists of 2 single futons which can be easily set side by side to present as a double. Essentials include bath towels, hand towels, body soap, hairdryer & all bed linen.
HOSTS:
As an Australian/Japanese owned venture your hosts are Kyoto locals, live on-site and can offer advice in English, Japanese to help make your stay stress free and even more memorable.
SMOKING:
As our machiya is a historic wooden building, smoking is prohibited throughout the building.
MEALS:
Meals are not included in your tariff. Restaurants are close by.
Our in-house café, Jam Jar Lounge, is open from 10:00am – 7:00pm Tuesday through Sunday (Closed Mondays).
LAUNDRY FACILITIES:
Laundry facilities are not available on site, however there are several laundromats nearby.
